As my wife and I currently struggle to find a parish that is “just right” in our town, I came across this post by a friend of mine concerning the essentials, and the non-essentials, of the faith. It helped me clarify my thinking a bit about what to look for in a parish–what is essential, and what is merely a non-essential that I prefer over another. Yes I hate singing a new church into being each week, but is that a reason to switch parishes? (If they hadn’t ruined a beautiful tune in the process, I don’t think I would mind the song so much.)

It’s helpful to reorient ourselves from time to time about what is really important in life and in our faith. Check out the post. You’ll be glad you did.
