The Irrelevancy of the Nobel Prize

noble peace prizePresident Obama’s receiving the Nobel Peace Prize today shows how irrelevant (not to mention, political) the prize has become. Merely 37 weeks into office, Obama won for having done what? Past winners of the Nobel Prize have included some notable figures throughout time: Mother Teresa, Gorbachev, Elie Wiesel, and Nelson Mandela. But if one looks at a list of past winners, it is not difficult to see that political considerations are playing a greater role in the selection process.

When even liberals acknowledge that Obama has done nothing during his presidency, it is clear that the Nobel prize has lost its luster and prestige in favor of promoting liberal politics.
