Pope Benedict offered these intentions for October:
“That Sunday may be lived as the day on which Christians gather to celebrate the risen Lord, participating in the Eucharist.”
“That the entire People of God, to whom Christ entrusted the mandate to go and preach the Gospel to every creature, may eagerly assume their own missionary responsibility and consider it the highest service they can offer humanity.”
For the first time in over ten years, I have been faithful to taking Sundays off. It makes the week busier than it otherwise would be, but the day of rest has become a necessity in my life. Well beyond the mental health benefits a day of rest provides, Sunday becomes an opportunity to reconnect with God and my family. It is an energizing day, a day devoted to leisure, and a day that reminds me what (and who) I work so hard for throughout the week.
